Noise Action Plan
Under the Scottish Government’s Environmental Assessment Act, airports are mandated to create or revise their Noise Action Plans (NAPs) every five years. Complementing this, the Scottish Government has also commissioned collaborative work to develop comprehensive noise modelling and mapping, aiming to provide a detailed understanding of noise exposure across all of Scotland.
The Edinburgh Airport Noise Action Plan (NAP) Public Consultation, held earlier this year, has now concluded. An informative NAP Presentation was prepared to detail the process and key information. Proposed changes have been reviewed and incorporated into the final document, which will operate from 2024-2028. This comprehensive plan has been submitted to the Scottish Government and will be published soon on the Noise Lab and the Scottish Noise Mapping website.
For a preview of the upcoming changes, you can still Download the draft NAP document. Further details are available on the EANAB NAP webpage and you can also find informative Q&As on the EAL NAP webpage. Additionally, for broader information on noise exposure across Scotland, refer to Scotland's Noise.

Edinburgh Airport Community Fund
The first round of the Edinburgh Airport Community Fund for 2025 has been awarded, it saw significant community engagement, with nearly £80,000 awarded to a diverse range of local projects.
- £78,591 awarded across 32 successful projects.
- 83 eligible applications (73% of total), a 6% increase from 2024.
Projects include: Inclusive Surfing Scotland (adapted wetsuits), Rannoch Community Centre (defibrillator), and The Froglife Trust (wildlife ponds).
To ensure the fund targets communities most impacted by airport operations, eligible postcode areas have changed. Visit the Edinburgh Airport Community Fund webpage for further details on the criteria for Round 2 which will be opening at the end of May 2025.
The Community Fund Report for 2024 is available to view, and provides an overview of the projects supported last year. It's a great resource to learn more about the Community Fund's impact and the types of initiatives that have been funded.

Community Engagement
Our Communities & External Engagement (C&EE) subgroup actively connects with organisations located under the flight path, including Care Homes, nurseries, schools, and golf clubs. If you're interested in scheduling a visit to chat about EANAB and the airport, please get in touch.
Edinburgh Airport maintains a dedicated Community Space on their corporate website, offering information on their engagement efforts, charity partnerships, the Noise Lab, and more. The Airport's Sustainability Manager, Aaron McKeen, is available to attend Community Council meetings and is specifically focusing on those communities that are most affected by aircraft noise.
Get in touch if you would like us to facilitate a visit to your Community Council.

Noise Complaints and Monitoring
The EAL Casper Noise and Track System allows members of the public to check aircraft noise levels and flight specific information such as flight position and altitude using radar data. It is a state of the art monitoring system that is specifically designed as an intuitive system for noise and aircraft track analysis.
Noise monitors are strategically placed around the airport to gather essential data for analysis. The latest has been installed at Cramond Primary School, Read More about it and Watch the video featuring June McClung, EAL Environmental Noise Manager, to get a better understanding of how they work.
Edinburgh Airport publishes a Noise Complaints report every quarter. They have committed to providing additional noise peak intensity and numbers information which will be included in future quarterly noise reports, starting with the Q1 2025 report. This data will be provided for each of the airport's noise monitoring sites.
The Q4 2024 Report is the latest available to view. All previous quarterly reports, along with EANAB's comments on them, can be found on the EANAB Noise Complaints webpage.

Greater Good Sustainability Strategy Refreshed
Jessica Briggs, Head of Sustainability at Edinburgh Airport, launched a refreshed "Greater Good" sustainability strategy earlier this year. This update reflects the Airport's evolving maturity in sustainability and guides its commitment to sustainable growth for Scotland.
Their strategy, built on four pillars, has already seen significant achievements:
- Zero Carbon: Implemented the UK's first air-side solar farm, installed 31 fixed electrical ground power units for aircraft, and introduced 44 new EV chargers and 25 new electric vehicles into their fleet.
- Scotland's Best Business: Formed new employee champion groups, restarted the Engineering Tomorrow STEM programme, and provided 76 early career work opportunities.
- Trusted Neighbour: Donated £470k to 162 local projects through their Community Fund, raised £260k via charity partnerships, and contributed 990 hours of staff volunteer time.
- Enhancing Scotland: Created a new wildflower meadow for biodiversity, built their first fully sustainable security control post, and secured nearly 300 signatories for their sustainable supplier pledge.
This refresh updates the strategy for the Airport's current operations and its place within the VINCI Airports group. It puts more focus on Biodiversity, Scottish Sustainable Aviation Fuels, and community engagement. The Airport's Biodiversity Strategy and Net Zero Strategy published last year can also be viewed.

Airspace Change Proposal
The latest Edinburgh Airport (EAL) Airspace Change Proposal (ACP) is currently in Stage 3 of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) process. This stage involves EAL preparing a comprehensive consultation strategy and drafting consultation materials, which are then submitted to the CAA along with the full options appraisal.
While the original submission has required revision, if the latest version is accepted by the CAA, the public consultation is now anticipated to take place in late Autumn 2025.
For detailed updates on the ACP's progress, please visit the EANAB ACP webpage.
The CAA website gives more information and allows the download of the relevant CAP1616 documents.

Aviation Analysis
The EANAB Aviation Analysis subgroup is exploring a Low Thrust Departure method for planes taking off from Edinburgh Airport, aiming to reduce noise for local residents. By using less engine power during climb, it anticipates overall noise benefits across the area, potentially helping 15,000-20,000 people.
Early analysis suggests noise reductions could lead to health benefits and less annoyance on both sides of the river Forth. Data is being analysed to identify benefiting communities and ensure any changes don't negatively impact those already highly affected.
Health Impacts
The CAA publishes Aircraft Noise and Health Effects reports every six months.
Previous reports are available on the EANAB Health Impact subgroup webpage.

EANAB Focused Groups and Information
Following the EANAB Review in 2022, our subgroups underwent a strategic overhaul. We've now established focused groups with dedicated expertise, designed to effectively address key areas within our remit. These currently include:
The EANAB Induction Handbook has been produced by the Education and Training subgroup, it offers valuable information about EANAB useful to all, not just members.
EANAB's Strategic Aims Document provides a clear overview of the work and objectives of each of our dedicated subgroups.
EANAB meetings normally take place on the first Wednesday of each month at 6:30 PM as a hybrid meeting, with the physical meeting taking place at the Novotel Edinburgh Park and the online meeting taking place via Google Meet. Meetings are open to the public.
